We are so happy that our bands and choirs have been able to share their music virtually with you this year. As they wrap up the school year they will be performing their last concerts on May 18th & 19th. Below is information on how the concerts will be viewed. Once again, OHMTA will be publishing the programs ahead of time so you can follow along on the live streams on our Facebook page.
Junior High & High School Bands – Tuesday, May 18th
The final band concert of the year is Tuesday, May 18th at 7 :00pm in the High School Gym. It will feature the Ottawa Hills Jazz Band (“Green Tonic”), as well as the junior and senior high bands. The concert will be streamed for our guests starting at 7:00pm. Green Tonic will play some hits from this year, including a couple jazz standards and a swing arrangement of our fight song called “Stand Up and Swing”. The junior high Concert Band will feature a blast from the past- a piece called Sax-O-Matic our current 7th graders prepared last year, but never got an opportunity to perform. Our Symphonic Band has prepared a “Broadway” themed performance of several musicals, including “Dear Evan Hansen”, “Phantom of the Opera” and more!
Only senior band members will receive two tickets for their parents to attend the concert live in the gym. No other audience members can attend.
Join us for a cyber concert next Tuesday, May 18th at 7:00PM! Be sure to check our Facebook page for the live stream!
Junior High & High School Choirs – Wednesday, May 19th
The school year is winding down, and the Ottawa Hills Choral Department is preparing for its final Choir Concert of the year on Wednesday, May 19th. We are very pleased to announce a few changes in the way this concert will be presented.
Instead of having one combined concert in the gymnasium, this concert will take place in two parts in the auditorium:
Junior High Choir/Junior Chorale Concert – 7:00PM-7:30PM
High School Choir/Choraliers Concert – 8:00PM-8:45PM
The junior high choirs will perform some traditional folk and spiritual songs, along with songs from “Newsies” and “Pippin”. The high school choir will perform several traditional songs and one from “Hairspray”. Plus, three seniors will perform solos for your enjoyment. And the Choraliers will sing the World Premiere of “You Are the Music” by Leah Tracy.
This concert will still be live streamed through our Facebook page so that friends and family can attend virtually. In addition to this, each family will be offered two tickets to attend in-person. Keep in mind that siblings involved in the same concert will only be offered one pair of tickets. Seats will be assigned at the door on a first-come first-serve basis. It will also be important to note that doors will open for parents to enter 25-minutes prior to each concert starting. 6:35 for JH Choir concert, and 7:35 for HS Choir concert on the 19th. In order to ensure distancing, every other row will be blocked off and there will be two empty seats between each pair of tickets. Additionally, all attendees are required to wear a mask throughout the performance. A student usher will walk each person to their seat.
